Historical Event on 4/6/1930

Mahatma Gandhi picked up a lump of natural salt for breaking the 'Salt Law'. He was arrested at Dandi. This movement gathered strength and within a month about one lakh people were sent to jail. This violation of Salt Law was the second great step in India's Freedom Movement.

12/30/1906The All India Muslim League was founded in Dacca by a group of big landlords which included Aga Khan III, The Nawab of Dacca and Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk-Salimullah. They supported the Partition of Bengal and called for seperate Muslim electrorates and other safeguard for Muslims.

10/26/1886Godavarish Mishra, famous Orria poet, playwright and patriot, was born.
3/20/1920Usha Mehta, freedom fighter, was born at Satara. Her name is closely attached with freedom movement via Bombay Radio, as she and Babubhai Prasad and Vitthalbhai Zaveri founded this Radio and started motivating people of India with their telecasts.
11/2/1972B. D. Pande was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of India. He held this office till 31-03-1977
4/16/1997Govt. orders foreign and domestic airlines to install air safety systems by the end of 1998. Aircraft with more than 30 seats that do not have Airborne Collision Avoidance System and transponders not to be allowed into Indian airpace from 1/1/99.
6/10/1833Azad Muhammad Jussain, Urdu poet and educationalist, was born.
2/1/2000The Centre decides to place almost all items under the automatic approval route for foreign direct investment and NRI and OCB investments.
7/25/1987Ramaswamy Venkataraman became the eighth President of India. He held this office till July 25, 1992.
6/2/1992The government accepts all the 15 recommendations of the Janakiraman Committee which unearthed massive collusion of banks in the security scam.
