11/29/1947The Nizam of Hyderabad said that he would not consider acceding to either dominion, but would agree to a 'standstill arrangement' with India. The agreement is accepted by the Indian government.

5/6/1922Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu, great revolutionary, freedom fighter and social reformer of Kolhapur, passed away at Bombay. He was 48.
4/24/1974Ramdhari Singh alias 'Dinkar', veteran famous Hindi writer and poet, passed away.
8/7/1925Monkombu Sambasivan Swaminathan was born in Kumbakonam. He went to Britain and took his Ph.D from the school of Agriculture in Cambridge in 1952. He developed high yielding strains of wheat and rice and accomplished difficult crosses in potato and jute species. In 1971, he was awarded The Ramon Magsaysay Award for generating a new confidence in the agricultural capabilities of the country. He was the Director of the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines. He is also the first agriculture scientist to win the Albert Einstein world science Award in 1986.

4/15/1938Madhurima. Ch, educationist and artist, was born in Begusarai, Bihar .
4/24/1858Kunwar Singh, revolutionary of Indian mutiny and freedom fighter, passed away. He fought his last battle near Jagdishpur, Bihar on April 23, 1858 and defeated the Britishers but was deeply wounded. He also organised the national rebels.
3/23/1995Shakti Chattopadhyay, famous poet, passed away.
